My old viflow license key cannot unlock viflow 8. What do I have to do?

New product keys are required for viflow 8. The old product keys do not work.

As a maintenance package customer, you can request the new product keys for your licenses from us free of charge and thus unlock viflow 8. Simply send us an email to: order@vicon.biz

Please note that a migration or conversion of your process model to viflow 8 is only possible from viflow 6 or viflow 7. If you have an older version, please contact us at support@vicon.biz.

Am I entitled to upgrade to viflow 8 at no additional cost?

This depends on whether you have a subscription license, or a currently valid maintenance package for your viflow licenses, or when you purchased a viflow 7 license.

As a subscription or maintenance package customer, you can request the license keys for your licenses from us free of charge and thus unlock viflow 8. To do so, simply send us an e-mail to order@vicon.biz.

If you have purchased licenses of viflow 7 after 01.04.2021, then you can convert them to viflow 8 free of charge. Simply send us an email to order@vicon.biz together with the license key of the previous viflow 7 license.

I have a maintenance package for my licenses. What do I need to do to upgrade to viflow 8?

As a maintenance package customer, you can request the license keys for your licenses from us free of charge and thus unlock viflow 8.

I have a viflow annual subscription. What do I have to do to switch to viflow 8?

As an annual subscription customer, you can request the license keys for your licenses from us free of charge and thus unlock viflow 8.

Will moving to viflow 8 replace or upgrade my previous viflow version?

No. viflow 8 has its own installation routine and is installed in a separate installation path. You can theoretically run viflow 7 and viflow 8 in parallel.

As soon as you open a process model of a viflow 6 version, the migration wizard is automatically started, which migrates the viflow 6 process model to the new format.

When opening a process model created with viflow 7 in viflow 8, a conversion starts.

Please note that migrating creates additional work for you. This migration guide (german) will support you in this process.

How do I perform the process model upgrade to viflow 8?

Download the latest viflow 8 version and start the installation. Your previous viflow installation will not be changed by this.

As soon as you open a process model of a viflow 6 version, the migration wizard is started automatically, which migrates the viflow 6 process model to the new format.

When opening a process model created with viflow 7 in viflow 8, a conversion starts.

Please note that migrating will cause additional work for you. This migration guide (german) will support you.

If you have been working with the SPM feature (distributed modeling with a master database), please make sure that all clients are checked in and the SPM feature is disabled before migration. After migration, please note the changed procedure for working with multiple modelers.

Has anything changed in the system requirements compared to viflow 7?

Will all the data from my viflow 6 or viflow 7 version be available to me after I upgrade to viflow 8?

Yes. As soon as you open a process model from a viflow 6 version, the migration wizard is automatically started, which migrates the viflow process model to the new format. When opening a process model from viflow 7, a conversion starts.

Please note that a migration or conversion of your process model to viflow 8 is only possible from viflow 7 or viflow 6.  If you have an older version, please contact us at support@vicon.biz.

Also, please note that a process model migrated or created with viflow 8 cannot be opened with older viflow versions.

Can I also use my own process graphic template in viflow 8?

Yes, also in viflow 8 you can continue to use your previously used process graphic template (file extension *.VST/*.VSTX). In viflow 8, however, the graphic templates are no longer linked as external files, but are stored directly in the process model.

To import your existing graphic template into the migrated viflow 8 process model, click on Data - From Visio file in the viflow menu and select the previously used process graphic template with the file extension *.VST/*.VSTX and confirm with Open.

If you do not know where the template was saved, please look in the old viflow version under: File - Options - Process graphic or search on the system for files with the extension *.VST/*.VSTX.

Can I use my previously customized viflow stencils also in viflow 8?

Yes, also in viflow 8 you can continue to use your previously used viflow stencils (file extension *.VSS/*.VSSX). In viflow 8, however, the templates are no longer linked as external files, but are stored directly in the process model.

To import your existing templates into the migrated viflow 8 process model, click Data - From Visio File in the viflow menu and select the previously used viflow templates with the file extension *.VSS/*.VSSX and confirm with Open.

If you do not know where the templates were saved, please look in the old viflow version under: File - Options - Process Graphic or search on the system for files with the extension *.VSS/*.VSSX.

Can I continue to use my viflow 7 license after switching to viflow 8?

Yes, if you do not use viflow 7 and viflow 8 permanently at the same time on one end device.

As soon as you unlock your viflow 8 license, you may run the old and the new license in parallel on one end device for 8 weeks. After that, you must uninstall the previous license.

Can I also use viflow 7 if I purchase viflow 8?

Yes, if you do not use viflow 7 and viflow 8 permanently at the same time on one end device.

Even if you have a new license of viflow 8, you can still install viflow 7 if you wish (downgrade right). To do so, however, you must explicitly request a license key for an edition-equivalent viflow 7 version from us, which we will send you by e-mail.
